OUR APPROACH
Our approach to asana focuses on slowing down traditional sequences from the Krishnamacharya tradition in order to move through postures with attention to both external and internal alignment. Internal alignment adds to the practice of yoga postures a psychological dimensions which focuses on drsti (gazing), pranayama (breathing) and bandhas (energetic flow). This approach crosses boundaries between various schools of yoga and in doing so helps the practitioner develop a mature practice that focuses not just on the physical aspects of yoga but the psychological benefits as well.
Our classes are small and we take care in building relationships with all who attend so people can develop a practice that is appropriate for them.
CLASS DESCRIPTION
Using a rich context of philosophy and meditative insight, the two yoga classes will allow participants to bring a new degree of freedom, technical skill and compassion to their every day practice. Students will learn small, subtle adjustments in form and attitude that can make problematic and difficult poses produce their fruits. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced practitioner of yoga, you’ll learn new ways to adapt to the present moment and make your practice graceful and free.
COSTS:
asana class is 18 dollars
meditation classes and talks are dana.
what is dana?
This meditation class and dharma talk is offered freely. We ask that you use this opportunity of giving as a practice. This practice is called Dana.
Dana, which is the Sanskrit term for giving, has been a part of Buddhist teaching ever since the days of the Buddha and also extends to many other forms of spiritual teaching, not just the BuddhaDharma. So whatever “dharma” title we may want to or not want to give what we do here, it’s important that we retain this interdependent practice of giving and receiving. Instead of paying a fee, you are asked to open your heart, feel appreciation for the valuable teachings you've received in the program and for the teacher providing them, and give generously. Dana is optional; it is part of the thread of giving and receiving appearing in all relationships and an eloquent reminder of the interdependence of life. Without dana there would be no teachers; without teachers there would be no teachings. Without dana we would not be able to maintain this space and offer what we offer.
